What Does a Maid Not Do?

There are many ways that a maid can make your life easier.  However, there are things that they simply cannot or won’t cover.  Here we will discuss what typical maids do not do.

Laundry is a daunting task that most of us do not enjoy.  That includes maids.  Most will not do any washing, drying, folding, or ironing of clothes.  Why not?  Generally speaking, a maid will not be in your home long enough to complete several loads of clothing.  A typical cleaning will only take a few hours.  Then they are on to the next house.  No time to wait around for your clothes to dry!  If laundry service is offered, it is usually only for a hefty fee.  So if this is important to you, try your local Laundromat and see if they offer it.  It is usually much cheaper.

Running errands is another thing a maid will not do.  There are hired to clean your home, and most prefer to stay right there.  They will not pick up groceries, pick up dry cleaning, get your mail, etc.  If you need to run errands, hire a maid service you can trust and use that extra time to do them yourself.  Or hire a personal assistant.

Child care and cooking are tasks that are not provided by maids.  If you are looking for light (or more) cooking, supervision of children, help with home organization or the like, then you should not hire a maid for this.  A nanny or housekeeper would be a better addition to your family, and can provide the experience needed for handling such important tasks.

Doing dishes is a tricky area.  Some, but very few, maids will hand wash your dishes or load and unload the dishwasher.  Most do not do it all.  The ones that do will charge extra for it.  This is important to know because your maid WILL clean your sink, but only if it is empty.  Therefore you need to make sure your dishes are done and out of the way on the day of your cleaning service.

Packing and unpacking for a move is something that a lot of people need assistance with, but don’t look to your maid for this kind of help.  Packing and unpacking requires a huge time commitment, and as stated earlier your maid will not be around long enough to put in the time required.  Most importantly, just make sure both you and your maid know what the expectations are and everyone should be happy.
